How to start competitive sim racing

Pick one simulator and one car class, learn a single circuit properly, and measure consistency over ten laps rather than one. Add structured practice, replay review, and a stable setup baseline. Then enter public races, accept penalties as feedback, and only after that look for a team seat.

A first eight-week plan

Weeks 1–2: one car, one track, consistency drills. Weeks 3–4: race starts and traffic. Weeks 5–6: setup basics and tyre management. Weeks 7–8: enter events and review every incident on replay.

How progress is measured

Average lap time and standard deviation matter more than a personal best. Clean-race percentage and finishing rate matter more than qualifying pace.
